Love in a Time Of HIV

Christina Rodriquez with her mother, Susan

A brand new series exploring how a new generation of young people are dealing with HIV

Living with HIV is a fact of life for millions of people. Living for a long time is also becoming fact for those lucky enough to have access to antiretroviral drugs.

In this new series we meet some of those people and find out how they're coping; from the young Indian woman who joins an HIV positive marriage bureau in Delhi to a British couple using a sperm washing technique to prevent HIV being passed on to their child.

I Love New York

Sixteen year old Christina Rodriguez is just like any other teenager in New York. She hangs out with the friends, she's thinking about dating and she's working out her future at college. But Christina was born HIV positive. She was diagnosed when she was just three years old, the same year both her parents tested positive.

Two years later her father died of AIDS - on the day before her fifth birthday. Her own chances of surviving then were not great. But Christina's got courage and attitude.Susan Rodriquez, Christina's mother

Although she has to follow a strict and demanding medical regime - over the years she has had to swallow thousands of pills - she has managed it, battling her way through depression on the way.

In "I Love New York" - the third in BBC World News HIV series - Christina talks openly about how she copes with her treatment and about her love for her mother.

This is a moving, sensitive and personal account of the bond between a mother and daughter and how both are dealing with being HIV positive.
